The main opposition party led by opposition leader Lee Jae-myung won the parliamentary elections in South Korea. Opposition leader Lee Jae-myung’s Democratic Party won more than 160 of the 300 parliamentary seats after nearly all votes were counted, news agencies reported. According to observers, the opposition’s victory will make it more difficult for conservative President Yoon Suk-yeol to govern. His party is in the minority in parliament.

More than 44.25 million citizens were called upon to cast their votes in the election on Wednesday. According to preliminary information, the actual participation was 67 percent. The highest figure in parliamentary elections in 32 years.

The next presidential election in South Korea will take place in three years.
