Parliamentary elections 2023 – Farmers and business are campaigning together – News

The Alliance wants to continue their partial success from the last voting weekend and is planning a joint campaign.

Three business associations and the Farmers’ Union are launching their joint campaign for the autumn 2023 elections under the slogan “Perspective Switzerland”. They want to draw the voters’ attention to the importance of the economy and agriculture.

The economy is not everything, but without a prosperous economy, everything is nothing.

For the President of the Swiss Employers’ Association, Valentin Vogt, one thing is certain: “The economy is not everything, but without a prosperous economy everything is nothing,” he told the media in Bern. Therefore, the economy should get a more weighty voice in the National Council and the Council of States.

Advertisement and poster campaign

In the coming weeks, the Swiss population will read the slogan “Perspectives instead of wishful thinking” in a major campaign on posters, in advertisements and on social media.

The campaign is financed by the three major business umbrella organizations Economiesuisse, the Employers’ Association and the Trade Association, which have formed a broad alliance with the Farmers’ Association.

Undo «Left slide»

Their declared goal: the conservative parties should emerge victorious from the elections in a year. At the media conference, there was talk of a “shift to the left” in the last elections.

This brought the country to a standstill. And that’s why, says Christoph Mäder, President of Economiesuisse, economic policy concerns must be given a stronger voice again.

Trade Association President Fabio Regazzi, who sits in Parliament himself as the National Councilor, puts it this way: “The voice of business must be given more weight in political discourse.”

Farmers’ association goes with the economy

The farmers’ association also sees it that way, although in the past it has not always had the same issue as the business associations – for example when it comes to free trade agreements.

But the similarities would prevail, association president Markus Ritter is convinced: “We have many topics that connect us,” says the middle national councilor. He names energy, food supply and security as keywords.

We farmers and the economy have issues that connect us.

In a first phase, the campaign still operates with very general and striking statements on the importance of the economy. That could change over time, up to the elections in autumn 2023, says Employer President Vogt.

On the other hand, it is certainly not planned to recommend individual candidates. That is up to the parties.

Billing will be on October 22, 2023

The left-wing parties who were shot reacted to the campaign with caustic comments. He bet, wrote SP co-president Cédric Wermuth on Twitter, that all of this could be summarized as “Switzerland being sold out to the big corporations” and “a frontal attack on the social rights of the people”.

Vogt clearly rejects this: “It would be nice if Mr. Wermuth would also take a factual position and not just generalities.”

Billing will be done in the federal elections, which will take place on October 22 of next year.
