Ukraine has to ask for Western tanks for a long time, then it will be heard. In the meantime, the first highly acclaimed Leopard 2 tanks from Germany are said to be in use. According to Bundeswehr Inspector General Breuer, plans for the counter-offensive are underway.

According to General Inspector Carsten Breuer, Ukraine is making progress with preparations for an offensive against Russian attackers. Apparently, the Leopard 2 main battle tanks supplied by Germany are also included. “It was explained to me how the front-line battle is being fought. The ground is still muddy and damp. There are still large lakes in some of the fields. The conditions for a comprehensive offensive have not yet been in place in recent weeks,” said Breuer in Berlin after a visit to the Ukraine. “But it has become clear to me in all conversations that plans for the Ukrainian offensive are underway.”

The highest-ranking German soldier was in Ukraine last week, where he met army chief Valery Saluschny and Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksiy Resnikov. Breuer informed himself about practical experiences with German military aid, including modern anti-aircraft systems, self-propelled howitzers and also the Leopard 2 main battle tank. This is therefore now being used in battles. “What was made clear to me is that he’s in action,” Breuer said.

The inspector general was first in Poland and then in Ukraine for two days. He then assured that support for Ukraine was “a top priority”. Breuer said: “I experienced nothing of war fatigue, but an almost irrepressible will not only to end this war, but also to win it.”
