Partial lockdown: the cinema industry needs planning security | BRIGITTE.de

The second part lockdown hits the cinema industry hard again. She demands timely planning security beyond December 20th.

Gastronomy and cultural institutions must remain closed in accordance with the new federal and state ruling of November 25th. The cinema industry turned to Chancellor Angela Merkel (66) with a letter. The main association of German film theaters (HDF Kino e.V.) demands in the letter: "For the cinemas in Germany it is essential that you decide on December 6th, 2020 how things will continue for our industry after the Christmas season." Planning for such short periods is "the last thrust into the abyss" for the industry.

The association justifies the demand for planning security with the fact that the resumption of cinema operations requires preparatory work of two weeks. Films would have to be scheduled and advertised and had the opportunity to run in the cinema for a longer period of time. "A great film only starts if it can see the evaluation over a longer period of time," says the letter that the association had already written before the federal and state consultations, after a draft resolution became known. The association had already drawn up a fire letter when the first partial lockdown started.

In an interview with the "Bild" newspaper, co-signer and Constantin Film boss Martin Moskovicz (62) spoke out against showing films immediately on streaming services: "We cannot simply take the films out of the cinema and sell them on streaming platforms We have made very few exceptions. They are also coming or have already come. But the films that were now planned are all earmarked for a theatrical release. "
