A climbing tour on the Salzburg Untersberg ended in death. A 36-year-old man and his partner climbed there together on Saturday, but only the woman returned.
At around 12.30 p.m., the 36-year-old from Gmunden and his partner climbed the 1800-meter-high Untersberg near Salzburg via the Dopplersteig. The couple split up at the upper Rositte; the man wanted to climb to the summit via the east ridge. Fatally injuredBut at the first key point, for unknown reasons, he fell into a steep rocky gully. The climber was so badly injured that he died at the scene of the accident and had to be rescued by a police helicopter and flown down into the valley. His shocked partner had to be cared for by the crisis intervention team.
