Partner pick-up – VW Amarok: Ford Ranger brother already on the road

Volkswagen wants to introduce the new Amarok at the end of the year. Camouflaged prototypes of the pick-up developed jointly with Ford are currently on the road in Europe.

With a length of 5.35 meters, the next generation has grown by ten centimetres, the wheelbase has increased by an impressive 17.5 centimetres, resulting in shorter body overhangs. The wading depth should also increase significantly. Depending on the market, one petrol engine and four different diesel engines with four to six cylinders, two to three liters displacement and 179 to 241 hp are planned. There is a choice of rear, switchable or permanent all-wheel drive and various driving programs. An electric variant is also planned, but this will probably only be introduced well after the market launch. VW has announced more than 30 assistance systems for the twin brother of the new Ford Ranger, two thirds of which are new. In addition, the payload increases to up to 1.2 tons. The trailer load is up to 3.5 tons. The comfort and material quality in the driver’s cabin should also increase, the cockpit is designed digitally and the infotainment is operated via a display in tablet format. The Amarok will be available in the five equipment variants “Amarok”, “Life” and “Style” as well as the equivalent Top versions “Pan Americana” and “Aventura” (on-road version) give. In addition to the Double Cab with four doors, the Amarok is also available in some markets as a Single Cab with a two-door single cab. The pick-up will be built together with Ford in South Africa.
