Party instead of construction freeze: Neymar becomes an environmental polluter with luxury properties

Party instead of construction stop
Neymar becomes an environmental polluter with luxury properties

Soccer star Neymar’s luxury property is located near Rio de Janeiro. The Brazilian is now creating his own lake with a beach, even diverting a river for it – albeit without permission. The environmental violations are now costing the 31-year-old dearly.

The Brazilian authorities have announced another fine against football star Neymar for violating environmental regulations in an unauthorized construction project. A site inspection of Neymar’s property near Rio de Janeiro revealed, according to the Mangaratiba Municipality, that the footballer had ignored instructions to stop any activity on the property. The Brazil international and Paris Saint-Germain star broke the order and “committed other environmental offences”.

Neymar’s father was reportedly on the property during the investigation and was held for insulting officials to local Environment Minister Shayene Barreto, but was released after a short time.

Neymar must therefore pay another fine, the amount of which will be determined after the investigation has been completed, the city administration said. The authorities had already announced an initial fine of at least five million real (around one million) on Thursday. The reason is construction work at Neymar’s luxury estate in Mangaratiba, where construction workers created an artificial lake and beach without permission. The authorities had cordoned off the area and ordered all activities to stop, instead Neymar threw a party there and went swimming in his artificial lake, according to media reports.

According to authorities, the football star diverted a river and carried out extensive excavation and landscaping work for his project – all without a permit. Neymar bought the property in 2016. According to local media reports, the property is over 10,000 square meters and includes a helipad, spa and gym.
