Pas-de-Calais: a doctor suspended for having had too many patients

A general practitioner practicing in Violaines (Pas-de-Calais), was suspended on Wednesday March 2, because of too much medical activity.

The National Order of Physicians, which notified him of this decision, justified it by “too great medical activity”, according to a message left on his answering machine.

Concretely, the professional will no longer be able to perform his duties for a period of six months. Present for more than thirty-two years in the region, this practitioner had no less than 2,700 patients to his credit.

These thousands of patients will therefore find themselves without a doctor until October 31. No substitute can be required, because this suspension concerns the firm as a whole.

A petition launched

The health professional and the Primary Health Insurance Fund (CPAM) had had strained relations for several years.

On several occasions, these authorities had asked him to justify his large number of patients and to reduce his sick leave by 25%.

“There was an investigation for six months, they found nothing”, in any case assured at the microphone of France Bleu Nord Jean-François Castelle, the mayor of Violaines, who took up the cause of doctor.

A petition has been launched by the doctor’s patients who have already collected 2,000 signatures. It is not certain, however, that it will cancel the decision, because the CPAM affirms that the practitioner was aware of the notice of suspension from the National Order of Physicians since December 10, 2021.
