On the occasion of the release of his book “Life’s journey – Interview with a champion – of the peasant world during the Tour de France”, Bernard Thévenet returns in “Pascal Praud and you” on his victory in the Grande Boucle in front of Eddy Merckx, cycling legend at the time. In 1975, Bernard Thévenet won his first Tour de France by dominating Eddy Merckx, a cycling legend at the time. In the show Pascal Praud et vous, the former French runner looks back on the day he overtook the Belgian during a stage, a moment that the media missed due to lack of resources. “The retransmission took place over an hour, because that was the autonomy of the helicopter,” quips Bernard Thévenet.

After a car accident, “the helicopter came back and I had overtaken Eddy Merckx,” he says. “The journalists were completely lost. It happened in a few minutes and the appearance had completely changed. They thought I was running after Eddy Merckx, but it was the opposite, it was he who was chasing me”, he remembers.
