Passenger “jokes” about explosives in hand luggage – now faces prison

On Thursday (29.08.), a 66-year-old man caused a stir at Leipzig Airport when he claimed during boarding that he had explosives in his hand luggage. According to MDR The man was annoyed that the flight attendants kept rearranging his suitcase, so he gave a joking warning. The captain then excluded the man from the flight and called the federal police.

Three years in prison or a heavy fine instead of Tunisian sun

The passenger was unable to board his flight to Tunisia and was instead thoroughly searched by the police. MDR reports that the officers did not find any explosives. The 66-year-old’s assurances that he was just playing a bad joke are of no help. He must now answer for disturbing the peace.

According to the MDR report, this crime can be punished with a prison sentence of up to three years or a large fine. The Federal Police warns strongly against making such claims in a high-security environment, as they could have far-reaching consequences. The incident also had consequences for the other passengers, namely an annoying delay.
