Passers-by raised the alarm – shed on fire, man suffered burns

A pedestrian sounded the alarm in Zirl near Innsbruck on Saturday afternoon. While walking, the man discovered a fire in the shed of a family home. Initial attempts to extinguish the fire had fatal consequences for the homeowner’s 34-year-old son-in-law.

It was around 4:30 p.m. when the passerby rang the storm bell at the house of a 58-year-old. A fire had started in the shed attached directly to the residential building. The homeowner’s son-in-law and the pedestrian tried to put out the fire with buckets of water. They still managed to get a moped to safety. During the operation, the 34-year-old suffered severe burns on his hands and face. But the two men could do little against the flames. The shed was already ablaze. Fortunately, the fire brigade, who have been informed in the meantime, were able to prevent the flames from spreading to the residential building. Considerable damage to property, cause unclear. According to the police, the damage to the facade of the house and the destroyed shed is considerable. The cause of the fire was initially unclear. The 34-year-old and the pedestrian were taken to Hall Hospital. Both may also have suffered smoke inhalation.
