Patricia Kelly is a family man through and through. After all, the singer spent years performing on stages around the world with at least six of her numerous siblings. It’s no wonder that she literally jumps for air when one of her own chicks suddenly returns to their home nest after leaving the nest. She reveals to Annika Lau on the sofa on GALA on TV why the return of her son Iggi and his girlfriend Eske to their Spanish home couldn’t make the musician happier.

Patricia Kelly, 54, has seen the world – and was never alone. The singer was part of the famous “Kelly Family” for over four decades, initially touring the pedestrian zones with her siblings and then conquering the big stages in the 1990s. The musician now lives with her with her husband Denis Sawinkin, 50, on the Balearic island of Mallorca. An idyll with two dogs: Luna and Linda. The children have fledged: their eldest son Alexander, 22, is studying, while their youngest Iggi, 20, wants to follow in the famous mom’s footsteps and wowed audiences on “The Voice Kids” at a young age. Both stand on their own two feet and left their parents’ house early. But one of them has now returned to his mother’s arms – along with his family.

Patricia Kelly was skeptical about Iggi’s plans to move out

Even before his 18th birthday, Iggi packed his bags and looked for his own apartment with his girlfriend Eske Hohlen. Dad Denis supported her son’s plans, but mom Patricia was skeptical, as the 20-year-old revealed in an interview with RTL about a year ago: “I’m not quite sure about that,” she explained to her baby when he was 16 years old announced spatial independence. “But in the end it worked out well because they knew we could do it well,” Iggi said at the time.

And indeed: the two teenagers at the time seem to have mastered their life together brilliantly. Nevertheless, Iggi ended up going back to his parents. The young artist has knocked on the door of “Hotel Mama” again – and his Eske with him, as Patricia reveals in an interview with Annika Lau. “I think he feels comfortable with us – and so does his girlfriend. That is the biggest compliment for me. Eske is a very sweet girl. For me she is part of the family, she is like my own daughter for me and we have a big house, I have to say. We then finished the upper floor for the two of them, with the kitchen and bathroom, and they came back home.”

“They are very independent”

Apparently Iggi and Eske couldn’t last long as self-sufficient people. “They were away for a year. They had their own apartment. They thought it was great and then they thought that it was actually really nice with their parents and then they came back,” reports Patricia, and assures: “They still did her own life.”

She stays completely out of their household: “They are very independent. They cook for themselves and do it well. They are both vegetarian and they do the laundry themselves, so everything is really spot on. Eske is very clean, very tidy and does everything. But I think we give them a lot of love and affection – and you can’t buy that.”

Seems to be going well with the unexpected shared apartment. However, there are also rules: “So let’s put it this way: I don’t go upstairs without being invited. I introduced that for myself because I think it’s important that Eske has her area and I’m a bit like that Mother-in-law. And that’s why I said, “I respect her space and I don’t go upstairs. But they can always come to me – and it works great!”

Things are also going really well for Patricia when she visits the GALA studio. As soon as she welcomed her, she thanked host Annika for the invitation: “I’m particularly happy because I’m a huge fan of GALA,” and assures: “It’s really like that. For decades! Whenever we’re on tour and stop at a gas station, I buy the GALA. That’s no joke.”

How good that Santa Claus left a small gift for the singer in the GALA editorial team. From now on, Patricia no longer has to make a pit stop at the gas station kiosk. With her new subscription she can relax on the sofa at home and wait for the latest issue to arrive. Small joys can be so simple.
