The former elected official was accompanied for the occasion by his faithful wife, Isabelle Balkany, who served as deputy mayor of Levallois-Perret during her husband’s various terms of office. During his interview with host Jordan de Luxe, Patrick Balkany was obviously questioned about his stay in prisonwhere it was placed in the VIP area.
“I’ve always been very serene, first for one thing: I knew I was going to go out. Second, I relativized: in my youth I heard my father having a nightmare. He’s a former deportee from Auschwitz, that made me put things into perspective“, first indicated the former mayor of Levallois-Perret. “I was often called once a month by the director of the hospital, who always asked me if I was okay. They are always afraid of only one thing, that is that we commit suicide. Because there are suicides“, he also added before letting out a rant. “The VIP is someone who cannot live like the others in a prison. He can’t see anyone. He is in solitary confinement, it is a double punishment. When you say you’d like to go to common areas, you’re told ‘no, it’s too dangerous’“, he explained.
Patrick Balkany rubbed shoulders with a famous terrorist in prison
For her part, Isabelle Balkany revealed the identity of the “cell neighbor” of her husband. In fact, when he was imprisoned in Fleury-Mérogis prison, Patrick Balkany lived in the same neighborhood as terrorist Salah Abdeslam, who participated in the deadly attacks of November 13, 2015 in Paris. During this same interview, the Balkany spouses, who have to repay a large sum of money to the French public treasury, revealed the amount of their respective pensions. Together, they receive around 12,000 euros per month. However, the distribution of this sum within the couple is not really balanced, given that Isabelle Balkany’s pension amounts to only 3,500 euros per month.
