France 4 rebroadcast this Wednesday March 2 the documentary dedicated to Patrick Bruel, Between the lines. A great interview where the singer looked back on his forty-year career, but during which he did not mention his cousin, who was also very famous.
It is a secret that has been well kept for many years. In 2013, a comedian well known to the general public revealed in a book to be the cousin ofPatrick Bruel. And this personality who wanted to break the silence is none other thanElie Semoun. A family relationship that the latter thus revealed in his autobiography entitled I will grow up later and on which he returned during his time on the show We are not in bed the same year.
During his interview to promote his book, the comedian had been challenged by Laurent Ruquier on his relationship with Patrick Bruel mentioned quickly in the book. He had therefore confirmed that the singer was his first cousin, that is, they are third-degree relatives. In effect, Patrick Bruel’s grandfather is Elie Semoun’s grandmother’s brother. However, he did not seem very comfortable when discussing this subject, which has not always been easy to live with.
Elie Semoun: “I was bothered a lot with that”
“It’s not the most important news.” he confided in the show, before explaining how his relatives had offered to ask his cousin for advice in order to get his career off the ground: “I was bothered a lot with that.” But Elie Semoun, “wanted to do it alone”, and not “saw not what he could bring him”. “A priori when I started, I didn’t want to be a singer so…”, he added. And the future proved him right because Elie Semoun has become over the years one of the most famous French comedians, without the help of his cousin.
