Patrick Devedjian died in the night from Saturday to Sunday in intensive care. The former minister and president of the Hauts-de-Seine department died at the age of 75. On March 26, he announced that he had tested positive for the new coronavirus, Covid-19. He did not seem worried about his state of health. In his message, he took advantage of thanking the nursing staff. "I am affected by the epidemic, therefore able to bear witness directly to the exceptional work of the doctors and all the nursing staff. Tired but stabilized thanks to them, I go back up the slope and send them a very big thank you for their constant help to all the patients. ", he explained via his account Twitter.

Unfortunately his state of health quickly deteriorated. Muriel Hoyau, his collaborator, told Figaro that the elected representative nevertheless showed signs of improvement. He was admitted to hospital last week before being transferred to intensive care. This is the first death, due to the coronavirus, of a senior political official.

This Sunday, Emmanuel Macron wanted to pay tribute to the former minister whom he notably qualified "free spirit". "France loses a committed politician who put his great culture, his immense knowledge of the law and his passion for freedom at the service of its territory and the Nation.", he said in a statement. "He who, never forgetting his origins, had Armenia at heart, deeply loved France, its culture, its imagination, its public services: his last public words were for the nursing staff who, until the end, helped fight against the virus and for the agents of the Hauts-de-Seine department, mobilized in the service of its citizens ", he added.

"Patrick Devedjian was a passionate, whole, sincere, committed man. He embodied politics as I like him, with feelings, convictions, panache. I am proud to have had him by my side. I want to say to loved ones my deep emotion and my infinite sadness", also reacted Nicolas Sarkozy who was very close to the president of the Hauts-de-Seine department.
