HSV pursuers say goodbye to the promotion race

The chance is there to put the stumbling Hamburger SV in trouble again in the promotion race. St. Pauli is engaged in a duel with Fortuna Düsseldorf, but unlucky. The Rhinelanders lack any ambitions.

FC St. Pauli and Fortuna Düsseldorf robbed each other of what was probably their last chance to get involved in the promotion race of the 2nd Bundesliga. The former first division teams drew 0-0 and are three points behind Hamburger SV in the relegation zone. The Rothosen, however, can pull away to six points from relegation candidate Jahn Regensburg (1.30 p.m. / Sky) on Sunday and practically secure at least third place before the last two matchdays.

St. Pauli seized their last chance more courageously and gained a clear advantage in front of 29,546 spectators at the Millerntor. However, the big chances didn’t materialize – until Marcel Hartel put the ball on the crossbar in injury time in the first half.

Dusseldorf appeared without ideas for a long time, even from standard situations, the Rhinelanders could create little danger. But then the guests were suddenly very close to taking the lead: Substitute Jona Niemiec fired in the 68th minute, and the home-grown player’s shot was deflected off the crossbar.

Meanwhile, Arminia Bielefeld got a last-minute win. The East Westphalians won 2-1 (1-0) at 1. FC Kaiserslautern after a late goal and are currently 16th in the table. five points ahead of Regensburg and SV Sandhausen in relegation ranks 17 and 18.

Under the eyes of former FCK champion coach Otto Rehhagel and the players of the Sensations title holder from 25 years ago, Jomaine Consbruch (15th) gave the visitors the lead. Lex-Tyger Lobinger (88th) managed to equalize – but Janni Serra (90th + 7) ensured the victory for the guests.

Holstein Kiel ended its negative run. Coach Marcel Rapp’s team defeated Karlsruher SC 2-1 (1-0) and got their first win after the last three clear defeats. Kiel overtook KSC in the table and jumped to eighth place. Both teams will end the season in secure midfield.

Steven Skrzybski (17th) converted a penalty kick to Kiel’s first goal since April 15th. Christoph Kobald had previously fouled Skrzybski in the penalty area. Finn Porath (69th) increased, Leon Jensen (74th) made it exciting again.

Eintracht Braunschweig won a point in the 2:2 (1:1) at SpVgg Greuther Fürth. The Lower Saxony are three points ahead of the relegation place. The Franks are also not yet saved, for whom Julian Green (23./54.) scored twice. Anthony Ujah (10th) and Immanuel Pherai (47th) with a knee were successful for Braunschweig.
