Pauli defends top of the table
Mega blunders cost Werder the win
While FC St. Pauli and Jahn Regensburg are higher up in the table of the 2nd Bundesliga, Werder Bremen cannot win at SV Sandhausen either. A catastrophic bad pass brings the cellar child back into play, and then Niclas Füllkrug of all people has his big appearance.
SV Sandhausen – Werder Bremen 2: 2 (1: 1)
Of all people, Niclas Füllkrug saved Werder Bremen from a bitter defeat in the second division. The pardoned striker, still suspended during the week due to verbal abuses against professional football manager Clemens Fritz, scored the goal to 2-2 (1-1) at SV Sandhausen on matchday 11 in the second minute of stoppage time. After that, it even hit the post. Nevertheless, the relegated threatens to sink into mediocrity, the direct ascent can not be an issue in this form on the Weser. The gap to the promotion ranks is already seven points.
The defensively shaky Bremer, who had taken the lead through Nicolai Rapp (12th), at least avoided their fourth defeat from the past five league games. Sandhausen missed his first home win despite two goals from Pascal Testroet (29th / foul penalty, 84th).
In front of 7252 spectators in the turbulent first half, Werder was very lucky that the hosts negligently forgot numerous big opportunities. The North Germans missed the joy of Rapp’s leading goal themselves, Lars Lukas Mai made the penalty possible with a catastrophic build-up error. Also at the goal of the 1: 2 deficit Mai made a bad mistake by simply letting Testroet run in his back.
After the 0: 3 at Darmstadt 98 on the previous match day, Füllkrug was suspended for three days, in Sandhausen he was substituted on by the harshly criticized coach Markus Anfang in the 57th minute. In the closing stages Werder became more dangerous minute by minute and could even have won.
FC St. Pauli – Hansa Rostock 4: 0 (2: 0)
Meanwhile, FC St. Pauli has impressively consolidated its lead in the table. Against the newcomers Hansa Rostock, Hamburg-based enthusiasts deservedly won 4-0 (2-0) and celebrated their fifth success in a row. With 25 points, St. Pauli is still at the top after eleven match days.
Jackson Irvine (12th), Daniel Kyereh (18th), Guido Burgstaller (61st) and Simon Makienok (78th) shot coach Timo Schultz’s team to their eighth win of the season. Rostock is after the sixth defeat with eleven points in the lower midfield. St. Pauli celebrated with the first chance, Irvine headed a cross from Luca Zander over the line. Just six minutes later, Leart Paqarada prevailed on the left and crossed into the penalty area, where Kyereh was not harassed with a header. Maximilian Dittgen (23rd) and Zander (42nd) could have increased further, but failed because of Hansa goalkeeper Markus Kolke.
After the break, the hosts immediately built on the performance from the first round. Burgstaller (50th) supposedly increased to 3-0, but the hit did not count according to the video images due to an offside position of the template provider Irvine. Burgstaller himself later rewarded himself and slammed the ball into the net with a direct pickup to score his tenth goal of the season. The Austrian replaced Makienok in the closing stages, who also scored 20 seconds after being substituted on.
SSV Jahn Regensburg – Hannover 96 3: 1 (2: 0)
Jahn Regensburg remains in the promotion race. The team of coach Mersad Selimbegovic defended the second place in the table with some difficulty with a 3-1 (2-0) against Hannover 96.
Sarpreet Singh initiated the sixth win of the season for the Upper Palatinate, who were still unbeaten at home, in the 16th minute in front of 8462 spectators. Carlo Boukhalfa followed suit (22nd). With his goal he benefited from an unfortunate action by guest keeper Martin Hansen, who represented the injured Ron-Robert Zieler. After the 1: 2 by Sebastian Kerk (54th) the SSV had to tremble again before Joel Zwarts (90th + 2) made everything clear.
Hannover 96 have to orient themselves more and more downwards after the fourth game without a win, including three defeats. The second round of the DFB Cup is due for both teams on Wednesday: Jahn plays against league competitor Hansa Rostock, Hanover meets Fortuna Düsseldorf.
