If you paid for the order with Paypal and have to return the goods at your own expense, you can request free shipping from Paypal. “Apply” is correct because you first have to pay for the return postage and then apply for a refund.
That’s how it’s done:
Go to the website www.paypal.de/retouren and activate the return option once using the “Activate free” button. To do this, log in with your PayPal account and confirm the next steps.
The PayPal account must be a private account, and you can also use the free returns a maximum of twelve times a year. Important for international shipping: The reimbursement amount per shipment is capped at 25 euros, the exact conditions can be found here.

In practice, experience has shown that the service works without any problems: First of all, the easiest way to object to the purchase is to send an email to the retailer. If the shop does not provide any other procedure, address the package yourself and now pay the postage for the return (online or on site) via DHL, Hermes or another parcel service. Send the package insured and keep the receipt.
You apply for a refund by going to “Activities” on the Paypal portal, clicking on the relevant order in the list that is now displayed and applying for a refund via the link “Register for free returns”. Follow the wizard, upload a photo or document of the postage receipt and complete the process. As a rule, after a short time you will receive a message that the refund has been approved. A few days later, the amount will be credited to the PayPal account.
