Cyber criminals want to get into your PayPal account with a perfidious scam. Read here how you can recognize the scam and protect yourself from it.
Cyber criminals are currently again resorting to perfidious means to get at the data of PayPal users. As the “consumer advice center” reports, users of the payment service platform have increasingly reported in the last few days that they have been the target of a phishing attack. Accordingly, the PayPal users receive alleged emails from the service claiming that the account has been blocked.
The subject of the mail then says “Account restricted”. The running text reports that suspicious activity was detected on the PayPal account. Now the users would have to log in again and verify their credit card details in order to investigate the origin of the alleged activities and to unblock the account. But this is a fake.

PayPal Scam: How to Protect Yourself
The mails also contain a link that is disguised with a “Register with PayPal” button. The fraudsters are betting that the users will get a shock and try to reactivate their account as soon as possible. All the data that you enter in the next registration mask will go straight to the fraudsters. Your PayPal account is now in the hands of the criminals.
Should you receive such an email, please do not click on the links. Instead, you should go to the provider directly online or via the PayPal app and try to log in there. Once that works, you’ll know it’s a fake email. However, do not delete them, but move them to the spam folder. In this way, your mail program learns which mails are trustworthy and which should be sorted out beforehand.
