If you play Starfield on a PC with an AMD processor, you may experience a lot of repeated crashes. Indeed, the players concerned seem to be on the front lines of this nasty bug which is triggered at specific moments in the adventure. A temporary solution does exist, but it does not seem very effective at the moment.
Since September 6, Starfield is finally available to the general public, after long months of waiting and an early access release on September 1. Bethesda’s latest game is already off to a flying start, with over one million players on all platforms. As is often the case with games of this scale, the launch is not without bugs – despite the studio’s promises of a title with the fewest technical problems in its history. One even prevented players from launching the game for a while.
Unfortunately, other players are victims of a similar and equally unfortunate experience. Although they were able to launch the game, many of them nevertheless complained of repeated crashes, sometimes even at key moments in the game’s history. According to the testimonies published on Reddit, it would seem that PC players , equipped with an AMD processor, are the first affected by the bug, regardless of the power of the rest of their setup.

Note that, although in the minority, some players with an Intel processor have also encountered this problem. The crashes are all the more disabling as they sometimes occur at key moments in the game’s history. A testimony reported by Neowin mentions in particular problems with the quest which allows the watch to be recovered from Barret’s hands, as well as interactions with certain NPCs in Atlantis, the main city of the title.
The timing is particularly bad for both Bethesda and AMD, with both companies having promised cutting-edge optimization on the manufacturer’s hardware. Worse still, the testimonies come while a statement from Todd Howard is causing controversy on social networks. Interviewed on the question of PC optimization, the game director simply invited players to equip themselves with a better PC, which, quite predictably, was very poorly received by the community.
Contacted by a player, Bethesda customer service advised launching the game after deactivating all native Windows programs, as well as its antivirus. At present, it is difficult to say whether this solution is really effective. Bethesda will hopefully release a patch soon.
