PCF Congress: opponents of the leadership propose another orientation text

Members of the French Communist Party on Tuesday proposed an alternative text to the proposal for “common basis“, presented by the leadership of the party for the next Congress, scheduled for April in Marseille.

During a national council in early December, the draft guidance text of the PCF leadership had only obtained 58% of the votes cast (84 for, 55 against, and 5 abstentions), and several opponents of national secretary Fabien Roussel, often presented as distant vis-à-vis the left alliance Nupes, had issued criticisms.

In particular, they criticized the text of the direction for not taking enough into account “the imminent risk of a takeover by the extreme right» and not «not make it a priority fight for the communists“, as well as “the absence of an open discussion on the Nupes and on the conception of the rally carried by the PCF“.

“Facing the Far Right”

Explaining that the basic text for discussion proposed by management does not seem to themnot up to par“, some 130 leaders, parliamentarians, mayors and communist activists, including the deputies Elsa Faucillon and Stéphane Peu, the ex-minister Marie-George Buffet or the ex-national secretary Pierre Laurent, signed a proposal for “common base“alternative, baptized”Communism emergency, Together for popular victories“, of which the AFP had a copy.

Our congress is being held in an exceptional emergency situation. Our exchanges must take the measure of this and allow us (…) to decide on the choices of orientation capable of responding to these emergencies: those which upset the world, from the climate to war, such as the political emergencies which threaten with the risk far-right“, they write in the preamble of the text.

We have therefore decided, as provided for in our statutes, to propose a common basis for discussion which, in our view, is better able to open the debates», «far from fixed postures from the start“Write these first signatories, which also include former MEPs Patrick Le Hyaric and Francis Wurtz.

Facing the far right“, the text calls in particular explicitly to “win a new majority on the left in France“, judging that”the time has come again for the gathering of the left and the forces of social transformation“. For this text to be debated, it must gather at least 300 signatures, from at least 33 departments. The Communists will vote on 26, 27 and 28 January next for the choice of the common base.
