Peacemaker Season 2: Author James Gunn gives an update on the new episodes

“Peacemaker”, the series spin-off to “The Suicide Squad”, does not break streaming records in the USA on HBO Max undeservedly. So it’s no wonder that director James Gunn extended the series for a second season. But in Germany, the DC production is still looking in vain for a home.

But when will the new episodes start, what will season 2 be about and which actors are returning? Netzwelt tells you everything that is already known about the second season of “Peacemaker”. Warning, there are spoilers for the complete season 1!

Peacemaker Season 2: Start Date

Peacemaker Season 2 was confirmed by HBO Max the day before the release of the Season 1 finale. There’s a good chance the behind-the-scenes sequel might have been decided sooner, but even then, it’s unlikely that production for season 2 will progress at lightning speed.

James Gunn wrote all of the scripts for Season 1, although he only directed a few episodes. This is set to change in Season 2, so production will have to wait until Gunn has time to write 8 scripts and shoot 8 episodes.

Gunn is currently busy filming “Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 3”, so Season 2 of “Peacemaker” will not start before 2023. An official date is probably a long time coming.

Peacemaker Season 2: Storyline

While Season 1 of “Peacemaker” focused on the Buttlerfly invasion, Season 2 will see the ARGUS team confront a new, yet unknown threat. Peacemaker did let the Goff butterfly live, but without the alien cow, Goff’s days may be numbered, as he sat in front of Peacemaker’s trailer in the final scene.

Also joining Peacemaker in these final moments was Auggie Smith, Peacemaker’s dead father, who will likely accompany his son as a ghost from now on. So in Season 2, Peacemaker will have to continue to grapple with his past.

Since all other team members survived after Murn died in Episode 7, the composition of Peacemakers Team shouldn’t change much. After Adebayo went public with the truth behind Project Butterfly and Task Force X, she could take on a different role on the team in the future.

Now author James Gunn gave an update on the new episodes. In an interview with podcaster Neil Vagg, Gunn addressed Peacemaker’s state of mind, explaining that he knows where the character is on her emotional journey and that while he’s made new friends and been discharged by Adebayo, his father’s presence is above him floats.

Despite his death, Peacemaker still struggles with the impact his father had on him. Gunn cites the characters’ relationship in the comics as inspiration, saying that while he knew where the character’s emotional journey was going, he was still working on the storyline. “I know what Peacemaker’s emotional path is, I know where he is now, I know where he ends up. Peacemaker Season 2: Cast

There is no question that Season 2 will see John Cena return as the Peacemaker. The same goes for Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo, Freddie Stroma as Vigilante, Jennifer Holland as Emilia Harcourt and Steve Agee as John Economos. Robert Patrick is also expected to return as Auggie Smith through his involvement as a ghost.

You should also count on Nhut Le as a judo master in season 2, after all he appeared again and again in season 1 without playing a decisive role in the finale. So that will change in the upcoming episodes.
