Peaky Blinders: The start of filming has been confirmed – this is what will continue after the end of the 6th season

“Peaky Blinders” Season 6 is the final season about the gang that can be seen on Netflix.

Many fans are of course sad that it is the last season of the series about Tommy Shelby and his gang. But series creator Steven Knight delivers great news: In addition to the planned film, there will also be spin-offs.

Knight told US magazine Entertainment Weekly in December: “We’re finishing the series as it is right now, but we’re going to make a film that we’ll shoot in about 18 months or later. After that, depending on how the film structure is “We’re going to launch some spin-offs that are part of the same universe.”

Since his comments, however, Knight has been hired to write a Star Wars film centered on Daisy Ridley’s Rey and set to be directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy – meaning Knight’s priorities may lie elsewhere at the moment.

So there isn’t just one spin-off, Knight wants to create several new series from the “Peaky Blinders” universe. Is this the start of a big franchise? There will be two spin-offs. One is supposed to tell the backstory of Helen McCrory’s character Polly Gray, the other is supposed to tell completely new characters in Boston in the mid-20th century (via Bloomberg).

In April 2022, shortly after the season 6 finale aired on BBC One, Knight also revealed some new details about the film in an interview with the US magazine Deadline. What is certain is that it will take place during the Second World War. A particular focus will be on the younger Peaky Blinders. Knight reveals: “I’m very interested in Duke, I’m very interested in Isiah and how a new generation grows up without losing the older generation.”

The series creator also had a lot to say about Tommy’s development. “Peaky Blinders” begins with Tommy Shelby on a black horse and ends with him on a white horse. Is he now freed from his sins? The film will tell us when Tommy finds himself in the middle of World War II. Knight’s dream was for Thomas Shelby to find redemption at the end of the story…or come back to life. The latter seems to have happened at least at the end of the series.

I imagine that he [Tommy] At the beginning of the series he was dead inside, like many people after the First World War, and then he slowly thawed. But it is a painful process because when the feeling returns, it is painful. So this is what we experienced; that’s why I wanted to end it with the 11th hour and peace. In other words, his World War I ended when he fired the shot and didn’t kill the doctor.

When does the “Peaky Blinders” movie start?

In an interview with the Radio Times in December 2023, Knight revealed that the scripts were almost finished and that filming should start in mid-2024. A start in 2025 could be possible.
