The LR candidate made the round trip from Yerevan to this area disputed in Armenia by Azerbaijan, the scene of a war in the fall of 2020. A symbolic visit for Valérie Pécresse, who defended the Eastern Christians one of the themes of his trip to Yerevan.

The trip was not planned in the official program and was decided last night. Valérie Pécresse went today to Nagorno-Karabakh under Armenian protection, in the company of Bruno Retailleau and Michel Barnier. There they met Arayik Haroutiounian, the President of the Republic of Artsakh, and part of his government. This autonomous region was the scene of a 44-day war between Armenia and Azerbaijan in the fall of 2020, causing the deaths of 6,500 people. Armenia was forced to cede several regions to Azerbaijan, including 150 churches.

Valérie Pécresse, Bruno Retailleau and Michel Barnier then went to the center of the Francophonie Paul Éluard in Stepanakert and met with the representative of the Church of Nagorno-Karabakh. A symbolic visit for the candidate, who made the defense of Eastern Christians one of the themes of her trip to Yerevan.
