Pediatricians ask to stop wearing masks at school

Several groups are asking for an end to wearing masks in primary schools, in closed places.

On June 16, Prime Minister Jean Castex announced the lifting of the obligation to wear a mask, only outdoors. To follow this decision, masks are no longer compulsory in the playgrounds.

Several groups including the French Society of Pediatrics (SFP), the French Association of Ambulatory Pediatrics (AFPA) and the National Professional Pediatric Council (CNPP) alert on “the arduousness of this measure has become unnecessary” while “high temperatures are expected in the coming weeks”.

This request only concerns enclosed spaces in primary schools, as in Belgium or the United Kingdom. “The return to recklessness of children seems urgent to us today and the removal of masks in primary school, a strong symbol of appeasement for them and their families”, underline the collectives.

For the moment, the mask remains obligatory in the closed places and this, from the age of 6 years.
