Penance: An exact release date for the new Xbox exclusive from the creators of Fallout: New Vegas

Between updates of Grounded and the outputs of Avowed and The Outer Worlds 2, Obsidian Entertainment had nothing to be unemployed. And yet he announced to the Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase 2022 a more minor project, but no less interesting, Penance. Explore the history of modern times by taking advantage of a graphic style inspired by illuminations and woodcuts. Pentiment is a narrative adventure game set in 16th century Upper Bavaria, during the time of the Holy Roman Empire. You play as Andreas Maler, a highly intelligent traveling artist who unwittingly finds himself embroiled in a series of murders and scandals spanning 25 years in the fictional town of Tassing, as well as Kiersau Abbey.

It will be up to you to make the decisions about Andreas, from his level of education to his lifestyle to how he will investigate the murders surrounding him. You can infiltrate the library of the abbey after dark to discover secret documents, play cards in the tavern to obtain information… You will have to choose how you will use your precious time to investigate the various suspects. Every decision Andreas makes and every accusation will have consequences, which in turn will impact the supportive Alpine community, for generations to come.

If you’re planning on heading to gamescom this week, you’ll get a preview of Pentiment, which will be playable in the public part of the lobby. The featured demo begins after the first kill in the game and prompts you to choose one of three available leads to begin building a list of suspects. You’ll be free to use your time as you see fit, but the consequences of your choices and the eventual justice that will come from them won’t be revealed until the game releases on November 15.

Like all other productions Xbox Game Studios, Penance will also be added to Game Pass from its launch, you will therefore be able to play it on all platforms and even in cloud gaming grace to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate at €12.99 per month.
