Pension reform: the government is “sadistic”, says Sébastien Chenu

Refineries, energy, transport, public service … Many sectors plan to make their anger heard Thursday, on the occasion of the first mobilization against the pension reform. A movement understood by Sébastien Chenu, vice-president of the National Assembly and deputy Rassemblement national du Nord, who denounces the “sadistic side” of the government. “There is a little sadistic side in a suit, to say, what can we do even worse to the French who see their purchasing power impacted, inflation affected their portfolio, who are against the postponement of the legal retirement age?”, launched Sébastien Chenu, vice-president of the National Assembly, at the microphone of Europe 1 on Monday.

However, the National Rally does not call for general mobilization on Thursday. “It’s not our job, our job is to lead the battle in the National Assembly”, he explained, adding that he wanted “the French who only have this make themselves heard, do it”.

“Our system is not in danger”

Guest of Europe Matin on Monday, Sébastien Chenu challenged the government’s theory that the French pension system is structurally in deficit. “Without reform, there will be 500 billion in additional debt over 25 years”, indicated Gabriel Attal, Minister Delegate in charge of Public Accounts, in an interview with the Sunday newspaper. “The forecasts of the Pensions Orientation Council are quite clear. They say that the system is sustainable, that it can hold up! Our system is not in danger, our system has a structural deficit of 10 billion euros per year”, replies the RN deputy from the North.

“It’s a tough fight”

Are the French resigned? In any case, “a difficult fight” is emerging. “The French are hard hit, motivated today, will it last over time? The French saw what happened with the yellow vests. Men and women mobilized on rounds -points for months and months, and in the end, has their way of life, their quality of life, their standard of living changed? No”, supported Sébastien Chenu, specifying that it is one of why he finds the “sadistic government”.

“He knows that the French are drooling over it, he knows that the French are having a hard time and he says to himself that while the French are struggling at the end of the month, are worried about the international situation, he says to himself that ‘He’s going to push through this reform because they won’t be out for long,’ he said.
