After the activation of 49.3 by the executive to have the pension reform adopted, Prime Minister Élisabeth Borne spoke in the Assembly in a hostile atmosphere. Under the boos of part of the left, she engaged the responsibility of the government which could be the subject of several motions of censure.
After the announcement of the use of 49.3 to have the pension reform adopted, Prime Minister Élisabeth Borne appeared before the deputies to engage the responsibility of the government as is customary. Under a bronca coming from part of the left which also sang several consecutive Marseillaises while brandishing signs “64 years old, it’s no!”, Élisabeth Borne first failed to speak because of the reigning hubbub. . Yaël Braun-Pivet, the president of the hemicycle therefore decided to briefly suspend the session before leaving the microphone to the head of government.

“We cannot take the risk of seeing 175 hours of parliamentary debate collapse”
In front of elected officials still as dissipated, Elisabeth Borne notably castigated the attitude of certain deputies throughout these debates around the pension reform. “I don’t want to go back to the behavior of those who did everything to block the debate. […] The screams, even as I speak, are just further proof of that,” she said.

The head of government then worked to justify the use of this controversial article of the Constitution to have this reform adopted. “Today, on the text of the Parliament, uncertainty hangs over a few votes. We cannot take the risk of seeing 175 hours of parliamentary debate collapse. We cannot take the risk of seeing the compromise built by the two Assemblies, dismissed. We cannot bet on the future of our pensions, and this reform is necessary”, she continued.
“What I remember is the commitment I made to you when presenting the draft #PensionReform : always look for compromises”, says @Elisabeth_Borne.#DirectANpic.twitter.com/KD2zKUW0Qf

The RN will file a motion of censure
And to defend the merits of the project: “These are advances for those who started working early, to upgrade women’s pensions, or to increase small pensions”.
Insufficient to calm the grumbling of the opposition. In the aftermath, Marine Le Pen, the president of the RN group in the Assembly announced her desire to table a motion of censure against the government while the communist Fabien Roussel called for a referendum of shared initiative concerning this bill. Elisabeth Borne will speak again this Thursday evening on the 8 p.m. set of TF1.
