Pension reform: the well-founded fears of a passage by amendment

Emmanuel Macron could force the pension reform through Parliament in the fall by integrating it into the Social Security financing bill. However, the unions recently warned the government against any measure that would be slipped during the budget debates, stressing that this would provoke their mobilization.

We thought she was buried but the pension reform is making a comeback. Emmanuel Macron does not rule out pushing it through Parliament. In any case, the President of the Republic wants to speed up and could even integrate it from the fall into the Social Security financing bill.

An amendment to raise the legal age

According to information from Europe 1, Emmanuel Macron clearly plans to pass the pension reform in the Social Security budget. Concretely, an amendment to raise the legal age or extend the contribution period could be included in the Social Security financing bill which arrives on October 20 in session at the National Assembly.

A hypothesis that makes the opposition jump. Especially since at the same time the head of state does not rule out brandishing the weapon of 49-3 to have the text adopted unless the government is overthrown.

“What respect for social dialogue?”

“A coup de force” denounces the leader of the socialist deputies Boris Vallaud. “What prior consultation is possible in these cases? What respect for social dialogue? Parliamentary debate? For a subject that is important. No, it is not acceptable to operate in this way. And at all costs, actually wanting to impose a reform that the French do not want”, he exclaims at the microphone of Europe 1.

An anger also expressed, almost in the same terms, by the Communists, the rebels and the National Rally. And even if they plead for a pension reform, the Republicans warn that they will not vote the Social Security budget under these conditions.

The idea is also coldly received by the majority: several Macronie heavyweights are opposed to it.
