The race continues at the National Assembly. The deputies now have only five days left to complete the examination of the pension reform bill. Nearly 13,000 amendments were tabled by the left alliance, Nupes. “It’s bullshit,” protests Laurent Berger, the leader of the CFDT, who calls on the left to stop its obstruction. The Nupes has the power to withdraw these amendments and therefore to decide on the continuation of the debates.
A difference in strategy
The deputies of the Nupes are well aware of their ability to advance or spoil the debates in the National Assembly. “We are the masters of time. That is what fundamentally annoys them. We have taken the time to debate special diets. We will not withdraw an amendment until we believe that the subject is not exhausted. And I can tell you that on the question of funding, the subject is far from being exhausted!”, declares the rebellious deputy Antoine Léaument.
In fact, rebellious France is torn over the strategy to adopt. The radical fringe, close to Jean-Luc Mélenchon, wants to paralyze the debates: “60% of French people want to block the country. But other rebels, close to socialists and environmentalists, want to withdraw their amendments to discuss article seven and retirement at 64. Some are optimistic: “we will get there”, concludes an ecologist MP.
