The debates open this Monday afternoon in the National Assembly in order to vote for or against the new pension reform. Against the backdrop of tensions within the hemicycle, some elected officials fear that disagreements will be created within the parties themselves, like the Republicans and the party president, Éric Ciotti, in favor of reform.

Will Republicans vote for pension reform? The executive could be ready to let go of the device for long careers, but that would still not be enough to rally a good part of the elected Republicans, yet targeted by this concession. The major disagreement concerns in particular workers who started before the age of 21. For Aurélien Pradier, everyone should be able to retire before the legal retirement age, after 43 years of contribution. On the other hand, for Elisabeth Borne, this rule cannot apply to workers eligible for the long career scheme, which requires having contributed at least five quarters before turning 21.

Eric Ciotti in disagreement with elected LR?

Another difference in appreciation also concerns the cost of this proposal. The measure proposed by Aurélien Pradier would cost him 1 billion euros, against 10 billion according to the Prime Minister. The latter therefore refuses, in the name of the balance of accounts, to respond to the solicitation of the elected representative on the right. The refusal to vote for the text of a part of the right embarrasses in any case Éric Ciotti, major interlocutor of the Prime Minister with Olivier Marleix.

The President of the Republicans is uncomfortable with the idea of not voting for a reform that he has long defended. Eric Ciotti would finally find it difficult to justify the position of his colleagues in the light of the progress made with the government, which would make his authority at the head of the Republicans somewhat tarnished.
