Pensions: a large majority of executives consider that the government is emerging weakened from this social crisis

The Viavoice – HEC – Le Figaro and BFM Business barometer measured the impact of social movements on the state of mind of executives and public opinion.

While France is experiencing a major social movement, linked to pension reform, in recent weeks, the morale of executives and public opinion has been affected. This is what the Viavoice – HEC – decision-makers’ barometer concludes. Le Figaro and BFM Business for this month of March. From a political point of view, 84% of decision-makers consider that the government comes “weakened” of the retirement sequence – 57% qualify it as “very weakened”. For the general public, the trend is less pronounced: only 69% of French people think that the executive is “weakened”. Similarly, one out of two French people finds that the unions are strengthened thanks to the social movement.

Already looking to the future, 44% of French people believe that the government is right to want to turn the page on pension reform and to want to address the issue of work.

The polling institute also notes a “relapse» of the index «Morale of decision makers» which is at the level of December 2022, without collapsing. Thus, 78% of executives (+ 2 points) anticipate a deterioration in the standard of living in France within a year. 56% (+ 5 points) also think that the number of unemployed will increase in France in the coming months.

Finally, six executives out of ten consider that the financial situation will soon deteriorate. The only positive point: 41% of decision-makers say that their employees are motivated, a criterion up 4 points. In the current social situation, their concerns nevertheless overlap with the challenges of the moment. Namely: purchasing power, pensions, inflation. Regarding the climate aspect, a small majority, 52% (+ 2 points), think that their company is committed to environmental issues.
