President Emmanuel Macron estimated on Wednesday that his highly contested pension reform should “come into force by the end of the year” because it is “necessary”, during a television interview on TF1 and France2 in the midst of social anger. . “This reform, it is necessary, it does not please me, I would have liked not to do it, but that is also why I made the commitment to do it”, declared the head of the State wishing an entry into force by the end of the year “so that things fall into place”, and in particular that 1.8 million retirees “start to be increased by around 600 euros per year on average” and that “we are starting to shift the legal age by three additional months”.

He also considered that “the project of all the opposition and of all those who oppose” the pension reform, “it is the deficit”, which he compared to a “magic formula”, in an interview to TF1 and France 2. “What is the deficit?” Asked the head of state. “It means, in fact, that you choose to make your children pay because, today, you refuse to decide with clarity and courage”, he continued.

Overflows in the demonstrations

While new rallies were organized on Tuesday evening against the reform in several large French cities, the scene for some of them, including Paris, of tensions between the police and demonstrators, “we cannot accept either the rebels, nor the factions”, argued the head of state.

Endorse unpopularity
