Will he succeed in repealing the very controversial pension reform? Charles de Courson, deputy Liot de la Marne and member of the Finance Committee of the National Assembly tabled a text at the end of April which could put an end to it. This will be examined on 8th June next, but the debates could be prevented by the use of article 40 of the Constitution by the presidential majority. In the meantime, the “moderate right” deputy, as he describes himself, continues to denounce a reform that he considers “unfair”.
A “fundamentally unfair” text
“It is a fundamentally unfair text since it bases the necessary savings on the pension system, on the most modest social strata and that is unacceptable. And then there is the method used”, explains- he at the microphone of Europe 1 this Wednesday. According to him, his bill aims to “put a stop to the authoritarian drift of Emmanuel Macron”. “That is to say, to stop wanting to impose laws by procedural mechanisms and to violate society,” he said.
For Charles de Courson, regardless of the outcome of the vote on June 8 on his bill, the objective is to recall “that the only representatives in this country are the deputies and that it is up to them to decide” on the points of friction in the reform. “Wanting to prevent the representatives of the people from speaking out is something extravagant,” he insists at the microphone of Sonia Mabrouk. “Everything goes back to the Élysée. But we can’t manage a free, democratic and balanced society like that, it’s not possible.”
Towards an obstruction of the debates by the majority?
Regarding his bill, according to the deputy, it has passed the test of “financial admissibility” and cannot be blocked on this ground. Éric Cocquerel, chairman of the finance committee, should give his agreement after that of the office of the National Assembly. Only, the presidential majority could find other means to prevent the examination of the proposal. Apart from the possible use of article 40, the latter could organize a massive obstruction.
“After having criticized certain members of the opposition who engaged – alas – in obstruction”, ironically underlines the deputy. Determined to relaunch the match on pensions, Charles de Courson ensures that they are very numerous in the National Assembly to ensure that the text goes to the end of the parliamentary course.
