The Constitutional Council delivers its verdict this Friday concerning the pension reform and the validation of the articles contained in the text of the law. On the left and on the side of the unions, several voices are rising to demand the use of Article 10 of the Constitution. What are we talking about ?

This Friday at the end of the day, the nine Sages will announce their decision on the pension reform. In the opposition, several voices demand the use of Article 10 of the Constitution. According to this article, the President of the Republic has a period of 15 days after the verdict of the Constitutional Council to ask Parliament for a new deliberation of the law or of certain of its articles.

The oppositions call on Emmanuel Macron to send the text back to the National Assembly and the Senate so that it can be debated again and potentially modified.

Article 10 of the Constitution already used three times

This procedure has already been used on three occasions: in 1983, in 1985 and in 2003 when it was used, for example, to replace an article censored by the Constitutional Council within the framework of a law relating to the election of regional councilors and European parliamentarians.

If the oppositions demand the use of this article, there is little chance that the President will use it. This would correspond to an admission of failure for the Head of State who defends this reform tooth and nail.
