Pensions: why Elisabeth Borne invites several ministers to Matignon on Tuesday

This Tuesday, the day after the vote on the two motions of censure on the pension reform, Prime Minister Élisabeth Borne invites several ministers to lunch at Matignon. The idea is to show that the ministers “support” her in the adoption of the pension reform.

Elisabeth Borne, who faces two motions of censure Monday after her recourse to 49.3 for an adoption without a vote of the pension reform, invited several ministers to lunch Tuesday at Matignon, AFP learned Monday from concordant sources. After the probable rejection of these motions in the Assembly, this lunch aims to show that the ministers “support” the Prime Minister, appointed to Matignon on May 16, said an adviser to the executive.

Elisabeth Borne must stay, assures Clément Beaune

Asked about this invitation to lunch, a minister replied in the affirmative. “I think, I hope, that the government will continue to govern under the authority of Elisabeth Borne,” said Transport Minister Clément Beaune on franceinfo Monday morning. “She can and she must stay. (…) She is a politician, a political leader who is needed in the coming months at the head of the government of France”, he added.

The National Assembly will examine Monday from 4 p.m. two motions of censure against the government of Elisabeth Borne which have little chance of being voted, paving the way for the definitive adoption of the pension reform despite the anger in the country that does not weaken.
