The police investigating the disappearance of the young Kiely, in the United States, deplored the lack of collaboration on the part of possible witnesses who were at the party during which she vanished.
It’s been two weeks since Kiely Rodni disappeared in California. The 16-year-old was at a campground party when she vanished. Her mother received a last message in which her daughter explained to her that she was about to return home. But she never arrived. After extensive research, authorities announced this week that the investigation would become more limited due to the lack of information and leads. Asked by the “New York Post”, agent Angela Musallam, of the Placer County Sheriff’s Office, did not hide her frustration, especially in the face of possible witnesses present during the evening, but who refuse to collaborate.
In total, between 200 and 300 people, teenagers and young adults, were at the party. “People don’t talk to us,” she lamented. “A lot of people who were at the party are going to start college and they’re afraid it’ll ruin their future, or something like that,” she added. According to the “Sun”, men in their late twenties would indeed have distributed free drugs, including mushrooms and cocaine during the evening. Alcohol was also allegedly consumed, which is illegal in the United States under 21 years of age. “Although we condemn illegal activities, for this particular investigation, they are not our priority. We are not going to arrest anyone for drug and alcohol use. We want to find Kiely,” assured Angela Musallam. “We ask people who know something, do you want to live with this weight on your conscience? You will have to live until the end of your life with the idea that a family will never have the answers concerning their daughter. Just tell us where she is. Her family has suffered enough,” she added. Earlier this week, Lt. Joshua Barnhart acknowledged “an isolated incident that we were able to get over” in which some adults advised teens and young adults not to talk to investigators.
“We’re just trying to put all the pieces together about his final moments.”
On Tuesday, Kiely’s mother spoke out again, hoping to see her daughter return home safe and sound. When interviewed by NBC Bay Area, she said, “Kiely is strong, she’s resourceful, smart, tenacious, fiery. She has a love life. I know she’s not one to give up easily. And this situation is no different for her. Lindsey Rodni-Nieman added “just wait for her to come ringing.” But the concern is immense. For the moment, no one knows what happened to the girl, while several hundred teenagers and young adults were at the party. “We’re just trying to piece together all the pieces of her last moments at the party to figure out where she went and with whom,” her mother said.
Authorities said last week they had recovered CCTV footage showing the teenager on the Friday night she disappeared around 6.30pm from a shop in Truckee, where the party was taking place. The images have been released, in particular by the FBI, but do not, however, provide new leads for research. On Saturday, the police explained at a press conference that the young girl’s last internet data was located at the campsite, near the water, “but it is difficult to give an exact location, outside or in the water”.
After releasing several photos of Kiely, police on Sunday revealed another image that matched an item of clothing she may have been wearing that evening. It’s a white and pink hoodie with ‘Odd Future’ written on it that she was filmed wearing at the party. Last week, police said Kiely may also have borrowed another hoodie, this time reading, “You don’t want to be forgotten, you just want to disappear.” These words are taken from the lyrics of a song by Lana Del Rey. As of a week, authorities again called on anyone with information to come forward. “If you were there and saw anything, please let us know,” said Lt. John Barnhart of the Placer County Sheriff’s Office.
