People evacuated – Brand Villach: police officer carried woman out of the building

Several Villach fire brigades were on duty in downtown Villach on Monday evening. A shop burned in Ringmauergasse. Eight people had to be evacuated.

Since there were several apartments above the burning business, the residential building has seven floors, several people had to be evacuated, “because the smoke rose up the window front and penetrated the apartments through tilted windows,” said the main fire station in Villach. A woman in a wheelchair was carried outside by a police officer from the fifth floor, and all the evacuated residents were handed over to the emergency services for inspection. Fortunately, no one was injured. The fire brigades of Vassach, Perau, Judendorf, St. Martin, Völkendorf and the main fire station had the fire under control quickly, and a comprehensive check was carried out using a thermal imaging camera. Unoccupied apartments on the upper floors had to be opened up to remove the smoke using pressure fans. The destroyed doors of the shop were temporarily closed with wooden panels. Residents were able to return to their homes. Now the fire group of the Villach criminal police is investigating.
