People's Choice Awards: The winners of the Corona edition

Despite the corona pandemic, the "People's Choice Awards" took place in California on Sunday. Here are the main winners of the evening.

Last Sunday, Santa Monica, California hosted the 46th edition of the People's Choice Awards. Due to the corona pandemic, the event took place in front of a virtual audience this year. Demi Lovato (28) was there live as a presenter, and some show acts like Justin Bieber (26) were also honored. A total of 40 prizes were awarded in the categories of film, TV, fashion and music, all of which were voted on by the audience. Here are the most important winners of the evening.

The three special awards of the evening went to comedian Tyler Perry (51, "Champion of the Year"), pop star Jennifer Lopez (51, "Icon of the Year") and actress Tracee Ellis Ross (48, "Fashion Icon of the Year"). Will Smith (52) was happy twice: his film "Bad Boys for Life" won the award as "Film 2020", and he was also named "Male Film Star 2020". He prevailed against Tom Hanks (64), Chris Hemsworth (37) and Robert Downey Jr. (55), among others. The female counterpart was Tiffany Haddish (40) for the film "Like A Boss". The Netflix production "The Kissing Booth 2" was honored as best comedy, "Hamilton" as best drama and somewhat surprisingly "Mulan" as best action flick.

The usual suspects on TV

In the end, the hospital series "Grey's Anatomy" prevailed as "Show 2020" against a large number of worthy TV representatives, while Ellen Pompeo (51) also emerged as a female TV star in 2020. Same picture in the specially managed drama section: "Riverdale" was given this honor, leading actor Cole Sprouse (28) was also named male TV star of the year. SofĂa Vergara (48) received the award for best comedy star on TV for "Modern Family".

Because of the working atmosphere of her talk show, Ellen DeGeneres (62) has recently been massively criticized. Nevertheless, her show was voted the best talk format in the USA again, for which the presenter thanked the virtual audience.

Prices for Bieber and Grande

Ariana Grande (27) was chosen as "The Female Artist of 2020", who had to assert herself against immensely well-known competition – such as Billie Eilish (18), Lady Gaga (34), Miley Cyrus (27) or Taylor Swift (30), to name just a few. Justin Bieber triumphed in this category for men. The musical winners of the evening, however, were the members of the South Korean boy band BTS. They were named group of the year, with "Map of the Soul: 7" they had the best album and with "Dynamite" also the best song of the year. And the music video of the hit was also awarded.
