  • The second season of the hit HBO series “Perry Mason” ended on April 24, 2023 in a grand finale.
  • In Germany, the grand finale ran on Sky Atlantic at the end of May.
  • HBO decides against a sequel, there will be no third season.

After the grand finale of “Perry Mason” season 2 that has just been released, fans of the series are naturally wondering whether we will see the charismatic criminal defense lawyer again in a 3rd season on the US broadcaster HBO.

It is now clear that the series has been cancelled. HBO told Deadline magazine, “We are immensely grateful for the remarkable work of Matthew Rhys and the incomparable cast and crew of Perry Mason in their reimagining of such a cherished and storied franchise. Although we will not continue the series for another season We look forward to continuing to work with the brilliant creative minds at Team Downey on future projects.”

Those responsible for the series, showrunners Michael Begler and Jack Amiel, as well as the producer couple Susan Downey and Robert Downey Jr., had already forged ideas for another season. Ultimately, however, it was the low ratings in relation to the budget that led HBO to cancel the series. However, the series was well received by viewers and critics.

In Season 2, Perry (Matthew Rhys) and Della (Juliet Rylance) turned their attention to civil cases rather than criminal justice. The season ended on a cliffhanger as Perry ended up in jail.
