Starting October 21, 2022, you’ll be able to play Persona 5 Royal on PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series, and Switch, as it has been on PS4 and PS5 for a while. But the remaster of the previous two titles takes a bit of time. It was expected that they would only arrive one at a time, and potentially have to wait a long time, but eventually P4G and P3P are coming to all modern platforms without exception, the January 19, 2023.
The release of an old license
The release of Persona 3 on PS2 dates back to 2006 all the same, and its version, enriched for the PSP, dates back to 2009. Suffice to say that for the vast majority of players, playing it legally is complicated, and the game has rather badly aging in some aspects. In terms of graphics to begin with, even if Persona 5 Royal sometimes gives the impression of playing a PS2 game, it does not stop there. The Persona fusion interface, the impossibility of controlling companions, and the terribly poor design of Tartarus’ levels, are all flaws that have been corrected in subsequent titles. Fans have been asking for a remaster, and if possible ports, for many years now. Atlus finally seems to have realized it’s sleeping on a veritable gold mine, and over 16 years of exclusivity on Sony consoles is about to come to an end.
Mystery Remaster
One can wonder how the studio is organized, since Persona 4 Golden was released by surprise on PC Steam only in 2020, even if it is possible that it served as an experiment, and that the figures of sale served to convince the studio to port both games to all platforms. The game was entitled to some improvements meeting the bare minimum on PC, with new resolutions for example, but the game was almost unchanged. Some graphical improvements would be welcome for Persona 3, not to mention the gameplay improvements bearing the points listed above. Very few details have leaked on this subject, and we cannot count on the port of Persona 5 Royal to get an idea of what awaits us. The most notable element is the integration of the 40 DLCs of the game, which is not luxury, for an extension which had forced players to buy the complete game with, to have access to it.
