eru. Ernst and Lilian Fischbach became famous as a defiant and shrewd couple: the Fischbach duo enjoyed particular success in the Swiss cabaret scene in the 1990s and 2000s. Peter Freiburghaus and Antonia Limacher, the real names of the duo, said goodbye to the stage several years ago. Now Peter Freiburghaus has died surprisingly.
“We mourn Peter Freiburghaus,” says the duo’s website on Wednesday night. “Through his sensitivity and creativity, he made this world a better place.” The farewell took place on August 4th in the closest circle of the family.
Peter Freiburghaus comes from Laupen in the canton of Bern and studied at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Bern. He played at theaters in Berlin, Lüneburg and New York.
Freiburghaus and his partner developed the characters Ernst and Lilian Fischbach as early as 1987, the Fischbach duo, as it later became known, existed from 1990. The performances were always characterized by a mixture of satire and contemporary popular theatre, the couple never laughed and mixed defiant dialogues with musical interludes. The duo toured Switzerland twice with the Knie circus and finally founded the Theater Duo Fischbach in Küssnacht am Rigi in 2008. Her last tour ended in 2017.
