‘Lord of the Rings’ director Peter Jackson reveals he wanted to forget about his Oscar-winning films – and for a curious reason.

With the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy, which was released between 2001 and 2003, New Zealand director Peter Jackson (60) will probably have a place in the hearts of fantasy fans forever. Recently on the Awards Chatter podcast of the US trade journal “The Hollywood Reporter”, Jackson now revealed an amazing private story about his famous film trilogy. He said he “seriously considered” being hypnotized to forget the Oscar-winning films.

Peter Jackson wanted to watch The Lord of the Rings like a fan

The reason for this is very simple: Jackson wanted to view the work he created like a regular fan – without knowing anything about it beforehand. “When we were making the Lord of the Rings movies, I always felt like I was the unlucky person who [sie] should never watch as a completely unexpected film,” said the director and three-time Oscar winner.

“I actually seriously considered going to a hypnotherapist […]to forget the movies and the work I’ve done over the last six or seven years so I could sit and enjoy them,” revealed the director, co-writer and producer of The Lord of the Rings trilogy further.

However, Jackson did not ultimately implement this plan, although he even spoke to the British TV mentalist Derren Brown (51) about the project. Brown therefore considered the envisaged hypnosis to be feasible.

Jackson, who also directed the “Hobbit” trilogy, revealed in the same podcast that he is looking forward to watching the fantasy series “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power”, which starts on September 2nd, 2022 on Prime Video. Because the New Zealander is not involved in the most expensive series of all time – and can therefore enjoy the history of his works without any hypnotherapy.
