Peter Maffay: Singer has married again

Peter Maffay, 74, married his partner Hendrikje Balsmeyer, 36. The singer has now confirmed this to the “Bild” newspaper. He explained: “Yes, it’s true. Hendrikje and I are married and have been a happy couple for a long time.”

According to the report, Maffay said yes again last year. The two are said to have “secretly married” on April 1, 2022, according to “Bild”. Only the closest circle of friends and family were said to have been informed, the paper reports.

Peter Maffay met Hendrikje in 2015

The teacher Hendrikje Balsmeyer and Peter Maffay are said to have met for the first time in 2015 at a concert by the musician in Magdeburg. The singer brought her on stage as a fan. After further meetings they are said to have fallen in love with each other and become a couple. As of November 2018, they have been parents to a daughter named Anouk.

Peter Maffay is married for the fifth time

Peter Maffay has been married four times before. He married his first wife in 1975 and the couple is said to have separated in 1979. He adopted a daughter with his second wife in the 1980s and the marriage lasted until 1986. He married again in 1990 and the relationship lasted for around ten years. Wife number four gave him a son in 2003.

In March, Peter Maffay and his son Yaris appeared at the premiere of the TV show “Happy Birthday Tabaluga!” shown in the Zoo Palast Berlin. The father-son team posed arm in arm and in coordinated outfits for the cameras.

Peter Maffay has been on stage for over 50 years, has numerous number one albums and has sold over 50 million records. This makes him one of the most successful artists in the German charts. His breakthrough came with the song “Du”, which became the biggest German-language hit of 1970. “And it was summer” (1976) and “So bist du” (1979) are also among his biggest hits. From the 1980s onwards, the musician underwent an image change from ballad singer to rock musician and celebrated success with the albums “Steppenwolf” and “Revanche”. “You have to go over seven bridges” can be heard on the latter; the album sold over two million copies.
