In his almost 70-year film and television career, Peter Weck, who celebrates his 90th birthday on August 12th, has played countless characters, but his role in the cult series "I marry a family" (1983-1986) has not been forgotten to this day . For 14 episodes, the Austrian delighted an audience of millions in his star role as Werner Schumann, who with Thekla Carola Wied (76) alias Angi not only finds the woman for life, but suddenly also becomes the father of three children.
The episodes are still regularly on TV today. The actor fondly remembers the filming. "We had a really good time back then. You can be happy to be part of such a cult show. Even today, numerous adults come to me and rave: 'In my childhood I always saw your show," he once said in an interview with the news agency spot on news.
The many fans are still waiting in vain for a sequel. "We were talking about continuing the series with us as grandparents. But there is no point in reviving something," said Weck. You can't meet expectations at all, it's better not to touch things like that anymore.
A real all-rounder
Weck had one of his first roles at the side of Romy Schneider (1938-1982) and Karlheinz Böhm (1928-2014) in "Sissi" (1954) as the brother of Emperor Franz-Joseph. Today he is the last survivor of the cult trilogy. Weck was not only successful as an actor and director. He is also known as the "father of the German musical renaissance". In 1983 he took over the management of the Theater an der Wien, where he set records with Andrew Lloyd Webber's "Cats" and "The Phantom of the Opera". Countless prizes line his long career, including two Bambis, three golden cameras and the platinum "Romy" for his life's work. New private happiness
Weck is currently attracting attention with a new woman by his side – 47-year-old child psychologist Joanna Rzepa. "She is a really great person," said Weck in the "Krone" interview at the end of July. He met her two years ago, but then lost sight of her again until they met again a year later. Weck comments on the job of his new love in his usual humorous way: "She is a child educator, that's practical: in old age you get childish again."
Weck had previously been married for 45 years. When his wife Ingrid suddenly died of a heart attack in the spring of 2012, the Austrian withdrew from the public. "My wife was an absolute stroke of luck. She was a great person and very understanding. She was an over-mother and took great care of the children," he recalled in an interview with spot on news. A new wedding is no longer an option for him. "You can be sure that you will not be invited to a wedding," he recently told the magazine "Bunte". "That would be an idiocy for me. Joana is not my future, but my moment". The two of them are sure to spend today's special day together.
"I don't want to be celebrated"
However, the actor deliberately refrained from a big party and not only because of the corona pandemic. "For me every day is a birthday because I wake up again and again," he explained to "Bild am Sonntag". "There are as many lies at birthdays as at funerals. If you like each other, you can meet like that. I don't want to be celebrated."
