What is it about ?
José, an Argentinian who recently moved to France with his partner and daughter, meets his neighbour. As they listen to the jazz piece Petite Fleur, seized with an impulse, he kills his new friend. However, the next day, to José’s amazement, his neighbor is healthier than ever. He decides to kill him again. José then develops a strange routine: taking care of the baby and the house, trying to save his marriage… and killing the neighbour.

- Petite fleur, whose title echoes the famous jazz piece by Sideny Bechet, is the adaptation of a novel by Argentinian author Iosi Havilio, Petite Fleur (Never Dies) published by Editions Denoël. “While working on the adaptation of the novel, I found that the tone and the story, in particular the fantastic elements of the narrative, recalled the strangeness of the films that certain South American filmmakers, such as Raúl Ruiz or Hugo Santiago, shot in France. So I wrote thinking of France“, indicates Santiago Mitre, Argentine director, who posed his camera in France for this film, on display this Wednesday, June 8, 2022.
- In addition to his poster which sets the tone, the idea was to film the funny and graphic violence… For the murder scene, Santiago Miter sought both to invent several ways of killing but also to make these moments funny. , as he explains in the press kit. “These moments had to be graphic and playful at the same time, that they constitute a kind of absurd and funny leitmotif throughout the film. There is a cartoon side to them, especially in the way Melvil plays them, without ever showing any pain. It wasn’t easy to do, it involved a lot of techniques, effects and props, but I’m happy with it.“
