Between now and 2025, 5 new electric models will arrive in the Peugeot electric range: e-308, e-308 SW, e-408, as well as e-3008 and e-5008 which have just been announced.
Peugeot unveiled its electrification strategy called E-LION, during a conference broadcast online on January 26, 2023. In the next 2 years, 5 electric models are already expected. In 2023, the Peugeot 308 will be available in electric in its two versions: e-308 and e-308 SW. The 408, which shares the same base, will also be offered in electric. Peugeot, on the other hand, has just announced e-3008 and e-5008, which will also inaugurate one of the new Stellantis platforms for electric cars.
e-3008 / e-5008: vehicles designed primarily for electric vehicles
While the current models are developed on a modular platform which offers the possibility of choosing between thermal, hybrid or electric engines. Peugeot e-3008, then e-5008, will be based on the STLA Medium platform which is first designed and optimized for electric motors.
Peugeot e-3008 already announces a range of up to 700 km wltp. The model will be available in 3 engines, including an all-wheel drive version, which would be a novelty for Peugeot’s electric models.
We will have to wait until the second half of 2023 to learn more about the new e-3008. The e-5008 will be unveiled later; probably in 2024.
The A segment, type Peugeot 108, does not seem to have a future in electric
Among the questions posed by journalists to the Peugeot teams present during this online event, there were twice requests for a smaller and more affordable vehicle – in the spirit of the success that the Peugeot 108 has had by the past.
Unfortunately, the current discourse seems to stick to an end of inadmissibility for a very compact urban model, which would nevertheless correspond well to the challenges of urban mobility. Even if the future STLA Small platform should make it possible to develop slightly more affordable compact models, Peugeot seems to have definitively turned the page on the A segment, which is not profitable enough.
Peugeot e-208 should remain the lion brand’s entry-level electric range. In any case, in the visual dedicated to the new design and the new philosophy initiated by the Inception concept, there are no small vehicles.
The future electric range seems to be taking shape around a family of products quite similar to the current offer. A positive point that can be observed is that the sedans have not been erased by the SUVs. Note that Peugeot e-3008, even if it inaugurates the new STLA Medium platform, it will not benefit from the new generation of design, which should appear later in the renewal of the range.
