Launched in April 2023 with an expensive First Edition at €48,000, the lioness does not fail to mark its positioning “premium generalist”, as Stellantis likes to describe it. Unfortunately, at this price, the e-308 is not eligible for the ecological bonus of €5,000, pushing potential customers to fall back on the Allure finish billed for more than €45,000.
A bit ambitious
With its sharp lines and a move upmarket that paid off for the 3008, Peugeot was surely hoping to enjoy the same success for its e-308. Unfortunately, the competition is tough among electric cars. Thus, with its modest 156 horsepower engine, its battery of only 54 kWh and its WLTP autonomy barely exceeding 400 km, the e-308 pales in comparison to cheaper competition, driven in particular by the Tesla Model 3, the Cupra Born or the Renault Megane E-Tech.
While all approach 500 km of autonomy and have a battery of at least 60 kWh and a load of more than 130 kW, it is difficult to fall for the lioness, who will be in difficulty during motorway journeys. .
Tariff readjustment
After reflection, Peugeot has become aware of its excess of optimism and is proposing a new price under the wording “Peugeot Store special price” lowering the bill by €1,440 for the First Edition and €1,370 for the Allure finish, placing them respectively at 46 €560 and €44,350. To this can be added an exceptional bonus of 3000 € further lowering the bill.
If the e-308 replaces itself more coherently, it still has some crippling flaws that its friendly face struggles to erase, especially against a Cupra Born VZ XL at €46,500, a Model 3 at €41,990 or a Mégane E -Tech from €42,000.
