After the e-3008, it’s the turn of the Peugeot e-5008 to enter the scene. If it uses the same platform, it is stretched to offer up to 660 kilometers of autonomy for its 7 passengers. A rare proposition in the electric segment.
The electric vehicle market is enriched with the introduction of the Peugeot e-5008, a family SUV designed to combine space, performance and energy efficiency. The e-5008 comes in three electric versions, all with a 400-volt electrical system. The most autonomous promises to carry up to 7 passengers up to 660 kilometers and charge from 2 to 80% in 30 minutes.
A spacious interior
The e-5008 borrows the avant-garde aesthetics of its little brother, the e-3008, all the way to the B-pillar, where the differentiation begins. The extension
of the wheelbase to 2.90 meters, compared to 2.74 for the 3008, makes it possible to offer a
generous interior space.
This design results in a loading volume of 259 liters
with all 7 seats in place, and up to 748 liters in 5-seater configuration. The useful volume can increase up to 1,815 liters when the last two rows are folded.
4.79 meters long, the e-5008 is positioned slightly above
of the popular Tesla Model Y in terms of dimensions, but promises more interior space thanks to its more angular shape and its height of 1.69 meters.
In any case, for the moment, the 7-seater Model Y is only available in the United States, the e-5008’s only competitor is the very recent Kia EV9, which has 5, 6, or 7 seats. Note, however, that the seats in row 3 are a bench that cannot be dismantled, but that the backrests articulate independently.
Three electric versions
The Peugeot e-5008 is available in three electric versions, all with a 400-volt electrical system. The base version offers a 213 horsepower motor and a 73 kWh battery, offering up to 502 kilometers of range. For those wanting more power and autonomy, a version equipped with a 98 kWh battery and 231 horsepower allows you to reach 660 kilometers. Finally, a 322 horsepower variant with two motors (and all-wheel drive) provides up to 500 kilometers of WLTP mixed range.
DC fast charging, for its part, offers a power of 160 kW and allows you to add 100 kilometers of range in 10 minutes, with a recharge time of 20 to 80% in 30 minutes.
An 11 kW onboard charger is installed for AC charging, and a 22 kW charger will be available as an option. Peugeot hasn’t yet announced pricing for this or mentioned features like vehicle-to-load (V2L) or vehicle-to-grid (V2G).
Technology and support
The e-5008 integrates the Panoramic i-Cockpit and the Peugeot i-Connect infotainment system, compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The vehicle also offers Level 2 semi-autonomous driving features, Pixel LED matrix headlights and integrated charging scheduling. It is unclear whether this also includes adaptive route guidance, which reprograms the calculated charging stop in the event of a deviation, for example.
The integration of ChatGPT is also new and follows the trend of other manufacturers, but this is only version 3.5, the enrichment of the database of which stops in 2021. Practical for searching for a generic information about a place, but less if we need to know the visiting times for example.
Price and availability
Peugeot will announce prices for the e-5008 when reservations open in June. We can expect a base rate of less than 47,000 euros to benefit from the government incentive of 4,000 euros.
The 213 horsepower version of the Peugeot e-5008, equipped with a 73 kWh battery, will be put on the market in October 2024. As for the 230 horsepower Grande Autonomie and 320 horsepower 4×4 versions, their launch is scheduled for January 2025.
