Peugeot: new Hybrid system for the 3008 – 08/28/2023 at 12:40

(CercleFinance.com) – The year 2023 will truly be ‘the electric year’ for Peugeot, which will introduce new models and new technologies to its range.

This will notably be the case for the new Hybrid system designed by Stellantis which is offered on the Peugeot 3008 and 5008, before being extended to the other models in the range.

The Peugeot 3008 and 5008 Hybrid are produced in the Sochaux plant and have been marketed in Europe since the 2nd quarter of 2023.

They will enrich the particularly complete family of electrified engines, including rechargeable hybrids, 100% electric and the fuel cell.

The Peugeot Hybrid 48V system consists of a new-generation PureTech 136 hp petrol engine, coupled to an unprecedented 6-speed electrified dual-clutch gearbox which incorporates an electric motor.

Thanks to a battery that recharges while driving, this technology offers an increase in torque at low revs, and a reduction of up to 15% in fuel consumption (from 126 g of CO2/km on 3008 and from of 128 gr of CO2/km on 5008).

In urban driving, a C-segment SUV equipped with the Hybrid system can thus operate more than 50% of the time in 100% zero-emission electric mode.

The driver is informed of the operation of the hybrid system via the Peugeot i-Cockpit® instrument panel, the activation of the various modes is completely automatic.

In everyday driving, the internal combustion and electric motors work together or separately to optimize energy consumption. During hard acceleration, the electric motor provides additional torque to the gasoline engine at low revs. During deceleration, the petrol engine cuts out and the electric motor turns into a generator to recharge the 48V battery.

Compared to a non-electrified petrol engine of comparable characteristics, the Hybrid engine allows an average fuel saving of around 1 litre/100 km on a C-segment SUV (WLTP mixed cycle). This saving is mainly obtained in town (- 2.5 l/100 km) and on the road (- 0.7 l/100 km), consumption on the motorway being unchanged.

The 1.2l PureTech petrol engine. This is a new generation of PureTech petrol engine specially developed to integrate optimally with hybridization: 3 cylinders and 1199 cm3, power 136 hp (100 kW) at 5500 rpm, torque 230 Nm at 1750 rpm.

The e-Motor electric motor. The permanent magnet synchronous electric motor, integrated into the gearbox, develops a peak power of 21 kW (28 hp) and a torque of 55 Nm. It allows the vehicle to be moved in 100% electric mode for low torque demands. and it assists the internal combustion engine to limit its consumption.

The 48V hybrid battery. The 48V Lithium-Ion battery has a gross capacity of 898 Wh and an available capacity of 432 Wh. It is designed to maintain the same level of performance throughout the life of the vehicle.
